A few days ago, my father bought the new Nokia 5800 XM fresh from oven, but he has a small problem when viewing any text without his eyeglasses especially when read a text message (sms), so he asked me to modify the test more bigger and thicker. Nokia 5800 has a font size option but still not enough for him. He is getting old now…
That’s why i search on Google how to change font in Nokia 5800 XM. I found some useful tutorial but still not works on my father’s phone and i only get one clue that said “the name of custom font must be same with the default font on the phone”. Then i try and it works perfectly!
So if you want to change your Nokia 5800 font, here is the step by step and i guarantee it will works for your phones too.
Some requirements:
- A file manager for S60v5 (i recomend Lonely Cat Games X-plore)
- Card reader, data cable or bluetooth
- Some .ttf font collection
- And a cup of coffee
Here is the step to change your Nokia 5800 font:
- Open X-plore, go to configuration menu and tick “show hidden files and system folders” option.
- Go to z:/resource/fonts folder and write down all file names on that folder (different firmware is using different file names too, my own is S60SC.ccc, S60TCHK.ccc and S60ZDIGI.ttf).
- Make a three copy of your new font and rename it as you found on step 2 (three copy of arial.ttf to S60SC.ccc, S60TCHK.ccc and S60ZDIGI.ttf).
- Connect your phone or memory card to your computer.
- Go to e:/resource (memory card) and make a new folder called “Fonts”.
- Send all your custom fonts in step 3 into that new folder (it must be e:/resource/fonts/S60SC.ccc, S60TCHK.ccc and S60ZDIGI.ttf).
- Restart and you have the font changed!
If you want to test my custom fonts, click here to download.
Notes! This tutorial is not only for Nokia 5800 XM, but also covers almost all S60v3 phones. The key is on step 2!
Here is the step to delete a custom font and use Nokia 5800 default font:
- Connect your phone or memory card to your computer.
- Go to e:/resource (memory card) and delete a folder called “Fonts”.
- Restart and you have the font changed back to default one!
Sorry i doesn’t have any screenshot for this tutorial, but trust me it works. Let me know if you have any problem, just leave a comment below.

I have tried numerous times to change the font but not successful.
appreciate if you can help.
I finally managed to change the font !! Viva !!
However, I now have a new problem……I used to be able to read and write Chinese using the old font (both English and Chinese) but now I cannot do any more Chinese writing nor reading ?
Any tips to get back my Chinese characters ?
I’m sure you can get back your Chinese character if you use a font that support chinese character.
So find another font that support Chinese chars (not only standard abc). Maybe DaFont can help you to find it..
How do I know if a font supports chinese characters or not ?? I mean is there a way to tell from the file name ?
You may try using a real chinese font to test at the first time just to make sure. Sorry i have no information about checking font with chinese chars, but you can ask the font author if you want…
Thanks for all your help ….
How to create .CCC file?????? thanks if can help.. maybe v11 need use tat file
Hello John, you don’t have to create it, just rename it like all file names under z:/resource/fonts folder. That’s all
thank so much….but mine is firmware V11, when i put the file download from you which contains .ccc in resource folder, it works. but if i create another font, rename and without .ccc file, it doesnt work anymore. how come??
is there any method to change font for firmware v11?
all need capital letter??
Hmm.. I think you should check your explorer setting to view file extension. Go to Tools > Folder Options on tab View, uncheck “Hide extensions for known file types”. Now repeat the step by step. Just make sure your new font has a similar name (also capital letter) with the default phone font at z:/resource/fonts folder.
or can you create a chinacat font for me ?
another question, admin.. normally where we can sign our application other than symbiansign.com? any software to sign ?
Sorry, i don’t have any chinese font here…
And about aplication sign, i don’t have any experiences with symbian phones since i’m using Soner and this tutorial is tested with my friend phone.
do you also know how to change the font of my phone?
7210 supernova?
Sorry, i don’t have any information how to change font in S60v4 series like your 7210 supernova
how do i know that the font is bigger from the original one?
You have to try it one by one if you’re not using FontRouter Manager (only available for S60v3 phones)…
i managed to do it according to your method, it worked thanks, but i used a font which work with english only, can i add another font to have 2 languages and how? or should i use a font can work with both languages? how to delete the one i just added?and which font is used in nokia 5800?
I’m glad if my tutorial works for you.. I never test a font with 2 language (eg chinese & english) and how to select language in the phones but you can try it by yourself. Use font that support another 2 language to test it.
To use default font, you have to delete the folder that you created before then restart you phone. I’m sure you phone will use default one.
Hi again,
Iam using now Tahoma font which support both English and Arabic, but iam still looking for a bigger font, can you advice?
thanks again for your help
For bold font i will choose Impact, but if you want bigger font maybe Verdana is good. Anyway click here to find a free font and compare the default font size there from preview.
how do i use my old 4gb memory card on my nokia 5800 it doesnt work! it has all my stuff in it
and plus when i send it it takes so long to move it all to 1 file i have to open it then go back save each of them it takes very long plzzz help me find a way to work my old memory card
Make sure your old memory card is microSD since Nokia 5800 XM has microSD/microSDHC slot with support for 16GB cards. If you still can’t use it, try to format you memory card first.
Click here to read some tips for Nokia 5800 that might help your problem about memory card.
Thanks for the write up. My 5800 NAM doesn’t come with Chinese language and is this method only for changing font size but not so much for adding capability of reading different languages? I am interested in adding Traditional Chinese to the phone. Thanks.
I’m not sure how to do it, since i never see a tutorial to add more language if the phone doesn’t support it
Thank you for your posted how-to!
I followed your step by step guide here and stopped at step 2. I can’t find the Font folder (resource/font) so it’s not there. In my 5800 XM I can only find z:/Resource/app and z:/resource/Version.
Do you have a solution?
Thanks!
Hmm.. I’m not sure if you only found app and version folder inside z:/resource. Maybe you should try open it with Y-Browser and try again from step 2.
I can’t make “Fonts” directory in e:/resource
Do you have any solution?
Thanks.
Update: no worries, I can do that using USB connection (connect as Mass Storage). That works perfectly. Thanks!
Thank you for your update bro.. Enjoy it!
Hello!
I can’t seem to find the resource folder. :( I tried the method of creating a new folder, naming it resource, but it still doesn’t work. :( Can you and other users of the Nokia 5800 XpressMusic who succesfully done this procedure help me? Like specify where the resource folder is located?
Hmmm, I have a hunch that the resource folder was deleted when I formatted the Memory Card. :-S HELP PLEASE! Thanks! :D
Did you follow step 1 about ’show hidden files and system folders’? If this step is already done but still can’t find resource folder, you should try using memory card reader to create new folder via computer.
You don’t need to delete the current fonts from your Nokia 5800XM. The process to change fonts is very simple (I found this on another site)
1) find the font you like on your own computer. Windows/fonts
2) copy the file to another location (you must use a file tff NOT ttc)
3) make 4 copies of the same file. For the 5800 S60v5 rename them: S60snr.ttf; S60ssb.ttf; S60tsb.ttf; S60ZDIGI.ttf
4) copy the 4 files to your phones memory card folder:RESOURCES
5) reboot your phone.
My phone now displays chinese characters. I am not an expert, so I cant answer any questions. sorry
hi..
i was tried like you said, but still not working on my 5800XM.
please email me asap.
very appreciate your help
hi…
can you give another fonts
thanks before
Hi Eddie, you can create your own fonts by following from step 3 to the end. :)
thanks for your tips…
now I got it>>>
Thank You………
Have tried your tutorial, and it worked fine. However, changing it back an deleting the ‘fonts’ folder under E\resources, but I am not allowed to delete it. Not from my pc, nor with X-plore. What should I do?
F
You can’t delete it if your phone still using that font. Make sure using usb mode when connect it to your computer.
Another way is open your memory card and connect to pc via memory card reader. Then you can delete that folder manually. :)
Hi admin,
I have followed all steps, but I have a problem with nr.5, as I can’t find the folder e:/resource in my memory card, but in my phone memory (c:/resource), where I’m not allowed to create the folder Fonts, although I’ve done it via computer.
Hope you can provide some help.
Thanks!
hi, i tried changing font, but its not working. my phone has fw v21.0.025
i did exactly how you said and no mistake i can assure..Any idea
Sorry i have no idea since i don’t know what’s wrong.. Just make sure follow each step carefully on step 2.
I’ve Changed the font
but the call dialer font wasn’t……it still default font
how to change the call dialer????
thanks before
Which call dialer, built-in or third party application? I have no idea for built-in but you could ask the author for 3rd app..
@liothee:
Make sure about step 1, if still doesn’t exist try to create a new folder called ‘resource’ and follow step 5 again..
Hi admin,
I’ve finally managed to create the folder e:/resource/Fonts and copy there the files but it still doesn’t work! The files are suposed to be named s60snr.ttf, s60ssb.ttf, s60tsb.ttf and S60ZDIGI.ttf and so they appear when I see them via computer. But in my 5800XM they all appear in capital letters and I can’t rename them.
Please provide some help.
Thanks!
@liothee:
If your e:/resource/fonts files is same with your z:/resource/fonts but still displaying default phone then i have no idea since most user here can change their font with this tips but there is also no luck people who can’t use this tips and maybe you’re the one of no luck people here.. sorry :)
I had the same problem. The folder name is lowercase on PC but it’s all uppercase in x-plore. x-plore doesn’t allow me to change the folder name. Don’t know if this is the problem that prevent the fonts in E: to be used.
i cant change my font..
in my resource it dont have any font folder..
do i have to make a new one??
hi…
